Nehamiah Project
Nine campers and two adult advisors enjoyed the hospitality of IUMC July 14 & 15.
The group was working in Cleveland and Cleveland Heights through the Nehemiah Mission in Cleveland. The group arrived Tuesday morning and were assigned to paint a house on Dove Ave. near Harvard avenue. The work was completed and they weeded the flowerbeds and trimmed the shrubs for good measure. The group then traveled to Independence and were hosted by the Veverka family. Sue Kotabish coordinated the supper and breakfast meals with the cooperation of Jane Kozdron, Tess Foltz and Jeanne Veverka. The ladies along with Pastor Ward Hines visited with the young people with Ward providing grace for the meal. After dinner, the group visited the Civic Center for a dip in the pool and a shower before bedding down at Veverka's home. The group awoke to the smells of two wonderful egg casseroles created by Jane and Tess.
On the second day, the campers were assigned to the Woodmere UMC's parsonage which was being updated. At the house on Glynn Rd. the teens primed and painted a number of rooms and replaced outlets and switches. At two in the afternoon they loaded up their vans for the return trip to Lakeside, the camp which has been near and dear to IUMC.
"ReachOut" is a yearly event in which the teens spend two days "Reaching Out" to others in Christian love. Some groups in the past have worked at Habitat for Humanity, Flat Rock Children's Home, day care centers, food pantries, nursing homes and a variety of other situations.
This year Lizzie Holton served as a "PC", one of the seven young people elected by their peers to plan the week's activities for nearly one hundred campers. It takes months of planning and scheduling activities and studies for the campers.
A big thank you to all who helped make the Reach Out a big success in getting God's work done!
